Objective: Describe the opportunity that exists in the treatment of patients diagnosed with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), according to their reference age. Methods: Analytical observational study of the review of records of patients with primary DDH. For the analysis, patients were divided according to the type of treatment: conservative (TxCons) or surgical (TxQx). It was also determined whether surgical intervention was required after failure of conservative treatment. Statistical analysis was performed with t-Student. The value that was taken as statistically significant at p < 0.05. Results: Sample of 233. Female 66.5%. TxCons 71.7% and TxQx 28.3%; surgical intervention after conservative treatment 11.2%. Ages TxCons and TxQx: reference 2.4 ± 3.9 and 32.6 ± 35.6 months (p = 0.001), attention 2.9 ± 4.0 and 31.2 ± 34.5 months (p = 0.001), and attention time of the first consultation 0.4 ± 0.1 and 0.5 ± 0.24 months (p = 0.001). Conclusions: Most of the patients in this study, who presented DDH, were treated conservatively, because they were appropriately referred before 2 months of age.
